The Handbook of Photonics, Second Edition

The Handbook of Photonics, Second Edition
John Ballato | 2006-12-21 00:00:00 | CRC | 1040 | Electrical Engineering
Reflecting changes in the field in the ten years since the publication of the first edition, The Handbook of Photonics, Second Edition explores recent advances that have affected this technology. In this new, updated second edition editor Mool Gupta is joined by John Ballato, strengthening the handbook with their combined knowledge and the continued contributions of world-class researchers. New in the Second Edition: · Information on optical fiber technology and the economic impact of photonics · Coverage of emerging technologies in nanotechnology · Sections on optical amplifiers, and polymeric optical materials The book covers photonics materials, devices, and systems, respectively. An introductory chapter, new to this edition, provides an overview of photonics technology, innovation, and economic development. Resting firmly on the foundation set by the first edition, this new edition continues to serve as a source for introductory material and a collection of published data for research and training in this field, making it the reference of first resort.

Summary: Not recommended (as a reference or introduction)
Rating: 1

I totally miss the purpose of this book.

It is not recommendable as an introduction to the subject as it misses many fundamental issues. So it is written for the experienced reader.

The experienced reader will miss many aspects of photonics and will also not be able to use this as a source of reference data or experiments.

I do not understand what the target audience was.

Floating Gate Devices: Operation and Compact Modeling

Floating Gate Devices: Operation and Compact Modeling
Paolo Pavan , Luca Larcher , Andrea Marmiroli | 2004-02-29 00:00:00 | Springer | 140 | Electrical Engineering
Product Description
Floating Gate Devices: Operation and Compact Modeling focuses on standard operations and compact modeling of memory devices based on Floating Gate architecture. Floating Gate devices are the building blocks of Flash, EPROM, EEPROM memories. Flash memories, which are the most versatile nonvolatile memories, are widely used to store code (BIOS, Communication protocol, Identification code,) and data (solid-state Hard Disks, Flash cards for digital cameras,).
The reader, who deals with Floating Gate memory devices at different levels - from test-structures to complex circuit design - will find an essential explanation on device physics and technology, and also circuit issues which must be fully understood while developing a new device. Device engineers will use this book to find simplified models to design new process steps or new architectures. Circuit designers will find the basic theory to understand the use of compact models to validate circuits against process variations and to evaluate the impact of parameter variations on circuit performances.
Floating Gate Devices: Operation and Compact Modeling is meant to be a basic tool for designing the next generation of memory devices based on FG technologies.

Op Amps: Design, Application, and Troubleshooting

Op Amps: Design, Application, and Troubleshooting
David Terrell | 1996-01-01 00:00:00 | Newnes; 2 edition | 512 | Electrical Engineering
Describes the purpose of the op amp and explains the operation of each op amp circuit from an intuitive and non-mathematic viewpoint. Also, explains the technical details of operational amplifier circuits in clear and understandable language. DLC: Operational amplifiers.

OP Amps deliberately straddles that imaginary line between the technician and engineering worlds. Topics are carefully addressed on three levels: operational overview, numerical analysis, and design procedures. Troubleshooting techniques are presented that rely on the application of fundamental electronics principles. Systematic methods are shown that can be used to diagnose defects in many kinds of circuits that employ operational amplifiers.

One of the book's greatest strengths is the easy-to-read conversational
writing style. The author speaks directly to the student in a manner that encourages learning. This book explains the technical details of operational amplifier circuits in clear and understandable language without sacrificing technical depth.

Easy-to-read conversational style communicates procedures an technical details in simple language.
Three levels of technical material: operational overview, manericall analysis, and design procedures.
Mathematics limited to algebraic manipulation.

Operational Amplifiers

Operational Amplifiers
Arpad Barna, Dan I. Porat | 1989-01-01 00:00:00 | John Wiley & Sons; 2nd Edition | 286 | Electrical Engineering
Nearly twice the size of the first edition, this second edition presents the basic principles underlying the use of these important circuits and provides many applications of their use in system design. New developments covered include operational amplifiers with high gain, low input currents and offset voltages, and high speed. The chapters on stability, frequency response, and transient response have been considerably expanded. There are two new chapters on applications and on internal structure: one describes amplifiers with current source inputs, as well as adders, integrators, differentiators, and nonlinear circuits; and the other discusses input stages, current mirrors, and output stages in operational amplifiers. Also contains 132 worked examples and over 300 problems, many with answers provided, plus several figures. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Synopsis
A revised and updated edition of one of the first operational amplifier books published. It presents the basic principles underlying the use of these important circuits and provides many applications of their use in system design. The extensive revisions made to the text reflect new developments since the first edition was published in 1971. These include substantial technological advances that took place, especially in operational amplifiers with high gain, low input currents and offset voltages, and high speed. In addition, the chapters on stability, frequency response and transient response have been considerably expanded and completely rewritten.
